Expatatable has the great pleasure to introduce you to the Iftars parties that take place every night in the United Arab Emirates.

Every year the whole Muslim world is fasting during the famous Month of Ramadan. In the West Ramadan nights are perceived as moments with sounds of food circulating, pleasure and enjoyment, with a flavour of the Arabian nights atmosphere and an oriental decoration. Dubai Bonjour, a leading online magazine in English and French, has kindly provided a presentation of this particular time of the year in Dubai.

Can you tell us more about Ramadan and the UAE?

Ramadan, which this year began on May 17th, is one of the five pillars of Islam with the profession of faith, prayer, charity and the pilgrimage to Mecca. It is the month during which the revelation of the sacred text to the Prophet Mohammed is celebrated (transcribed from that time in the Qur’an).

ramadan

Ramadan is the 9th month of the Muslim calendar. Its name means “intense heat”, and refers to the action of purifying oneself from bad behaviors. The fasting that Muslims observe is above all a spiritual practice of depriving themselves in order to remember that basic needs are mainly spiritual.

ramadan

It is a time of introspection during which everyone focuses on faith, actions and religion. It is a month of intense communion and sharing within the family and the religious community. It is also a time to approach those in need in solidarity and charity.
