Can you tell us more about Ramadan and the UAE?
Ramadan, which this year began on May 17th, is one of the five pillars of Islam with the profession of faith, prayer, charity and the pilgrimage to Mecca. It is the month during which the revelation of the sacred text to the Prophet Mohammed is celebrated (transcribed from that time in the Qur’an).
Ramadan is the 9th month of the Muslim calendar. Its name means “intense heat”, and refers to the action of purifying oneself from bad behaviors. The fasting that Muslims observe is above all a spiritual practice of depriving themselves in order to remember that basic needs are mainly spiritual.
It is a time of introspection during which everyone focuses on faith, actions and religion. It is a month of intense communion and sharing within the family and the religious community. It is also a time to approach those in need in solidarity and charity.
Fasting is broken at the time of sunset at Iftar.
Iftar can be a family meal, or a banquet taking place in a mosque or any other public place. In Dubai, many hotels and restaurants offer delicious banquets and buffets to share with family, friends and the whole community.
Gorgeous and splendid buffets are available in Dubai, decoration and gastronomy create an oriental atmosphere, which reminds us of Arabian nights !
